Using the Library
The Jackson County Law Library, Inc., (JCLL) serves the 16th Circuit Court of Jackson County and subscribing attorney members. For questions about membership, please contact us or click here. JCLL accepts cash and checks for all transactions. Cell phone usage is prohibited.
Locations, Hours, Holidays, and Parking
Our library in Kansas City is located at 1301 Oak Street, Suite 310, Kansas City, Missouri, 64106.
JCLL is staffed Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The library closes for the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Good Friday, Truman Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Contact us with any questions.
Metered street parking is available on 13th Street Terrace, and surface parking is available just south of the library in the attached pay lot operated by Standard Parking. If you are unfamiliar with downtown Kansas City, we urge you to check the Sprint Arena’s calendar of events, as street and surface parking becomes difficult to find during some events.
Our library in Independence is located on the second floor of the Eastern Jackson County Courthouse and is accessible during Courthouse operating hours. The building is closed for all 16th Circuit Court of Jackson County holidays. Street and lot parking are available on Kansas Avenue.
Food and Beverages in the Library
Although food and beverages are permitted in the library, we ask that patrons (1) drain liquids out of containers before disposal, and (2) dispose of items with strong or offensive aromas outside of the library.
Library Amenities
Overnight and Weekend Access
Members may access the library after hours, with the purchase of a key fob. Any member in good standing may apply for overnight and weekend access. Contact us for details. Use of the library’s staff-only kitchen is prohibited.
Accessing the Library’s Wireless Network
JCLL provides Wi-Fi access for members. Contact a JCLL librarian for the password.
Printing, Copying, Scanning, and Downloading
Members may print, copy, and scan materials on the library’s printer. Members may print, copy, scan, and download materials on the library’s workstations.
The cost of prints and copies is $.25 per sheet. Scanning and downloading are free.

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

The library has computer workstations equipped with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Members in good standing may check out selected materials.
